    Traduções não literais

Aqui aprenderemos algumas frases comuns do dia a dia.

    • Thank you = obrigado/obrigada.
    • You are welcome = de nada.

    • Thank you - Mais formal

Bom dia, boa tarde e boa noite

    Boa tarde Good afternoon -
Boa noite Good evening Usada no início da noite, para introdução
Boa noite Good night Usada no final da noite, para despedida

    Quando usar "no" and "not"?

    Exemplos:

    Eles são homens.

    • Tradução: They are men. (Eles são homens)
    • Negativa: They are not men. (Eles não são homens.)

    Eu não tenho dinheiro.

    • Tradução: I do not have money. (Eu não tenho dinheiro.)
    • Tradução significando nenhum: I have no money.

    • Ele mudou-se para a Itália = He moved to Italy
    • O Brazil é lindo = Brazil is beautiful
    • I like Europe = Eu gosto da Europa

    • The United States of America (USA) = Os Estados Unidos da América (EUA)
    • The United Kingdom = O Reino Unido
    • The United Arab Emirates = Os Emirados Árabes Unidos

    "have been to"

    • Have you been to Brazil? = Você esteve no Brasil?

    • Have you ever Been to France? = Você (alguma vez) já foi à França?

    "to be abroad"

    • He is abroad = Ele está fora do país

    Alguns falsos cognatos

    Veja alguns exemplos:

    Mothers = mães
    Fathers = pais (somente homens!)
Parents = pais (pais e mães)

    Sisters = irmãs
    Brothers = irmãos (somente homens!)
Siblings = irmãos (irmãos e irmãs)

    Daughters = filhas
    Sons = filhos (somente homens!)
Children = filhos (filhos e filhas)

As comidas e o verbo "to have"

    • To eat = comer
    • To drink = beber
    • I eat an apple = eu como uma maçã
    • She drinks water = ela bebe água

    • I have breakfast = eu tomo café da manhã
    • I have lunch = eu almoço
    • They have coffee = eles bebem café

Beef não é bife? - Falsos cognatos

    • Ela usa um vestido = She wears a dress
    • Ele está vestindo/usando uma camisa = He is wearing a shirt.

Já para "colocar/botar", usa-se "to put on", que serve para "vestir", mas não para "usar":

    • They put on a skirt = Elas colocam uma saia
    • He puts on his shoes = Ele coloca os sapatos dele
    • She puts on a skirt = Ela coloca/veste uma saia.

    • They use a tool = eles usam uma ferramenta
    • They use a shirt to dry the floor = eles usam uma camisa para secar o chão
    • They wear a shirt = eles usam/vestem uma camisa.

    .

    Clothes - Sempre plural?

    • Eu gosto da tua roupa = I like your clothes

    • He plays the piano = Ele toca piano
    • She plays the flute = Ela toca flauta
    • I want to play the guitar = Eu quero tocar guitarra.

Mas essa frase traduzida não é nada comum em inglês: "that car costs the eyes from the face".

    • That car costs an arm and a leg = Aquele carro custa um braço e uma perna.

Mothers = mães
Fathers = pais (somente homens!)
Parents = pais (pais e mães)

Sisters = irmãs
Brothers = irmãos (somente homens!)
Siblings = irmãos (irmãos e irmãs)

Daughters = filhas
Sons = filhos (somente homens!)
Children = filhos (filhos e filhas)

Comida updated 2022-01-28 ^
