In phrases like I bought it or I ate them, if the object is feminine, add an ‑e to the verb. If it's plural, add an ‑s!

Le livre, je l'ai acheté.
La pomme, je l'ai achetée.
Les livres, je les ai achetés.
Les pommes, je les ai achetées.

You have to do this whenever the object that you're talking about comes before the past tense verb, but not when it comes after the verb.

Les pommes que j'ai achetées sont grandes.
J'ai acheté les pommes qui sont grandes.
