TIP

Achète‑les !

When giving commands like Buy them! or Call her!, the French pronouns le, la, and les are tied to the verb with a hyphen!

Prends‑le !
Take it!
Appelle‑la !
Call her!
Achète‑les !
Buy them!

But if you're telling someone not to do something, le, la, and les come before the verb.

Ne le prends pas !
Don't take it!
Ne l'appelle pas !
Don't call her!
Ne les achète pas !
Don't buy them!
Ne le mets pas ici !
Don't put it here!

TIP

Ce sont de bons gâteaux

We've seen that some adjectives go before the word that they describe.

C'est un bon livre.
It is a good book.

We've also seen that you need to put des before plural nouns!

J'achète des livres.
I buy books.

And if both these happen together? Use de before the adjective instead of des!

Je porte de nouvelles chaussures.
I am wearing new shoes.
