Colors

When saying what color something is in Japanese, we need to remember a few things! If the words end in 色 (which actually means color!), like オレンジ色, put a の between the color and the thing!

ピンク色のスカートを履きます。
(I) wear a pink skirt.

If the color comes after the thing it describes, の isn’t necessary.

あのシャツは紫色です。
That shirt is purple.

If the color word ends with an い, you don’t need the の!

黄色いシャツを着ます。
(I) wear a yellow shirt.
彼女の靴は黒いです。
Her shoes are black.
