Se habla español

In English we’d say Spanish is spoken in Argentina, but in Spanish you’d use se plus the he / she form of hablar.

Se habla español en Argentina.
Spanish is spoken in Argentina.

You can use the same pattern with other verbs as well.

La maleta se usa para llevar la ropa.
The suitcase is used to carry clothes.

Se vende chocolate caliente aquí.
Hot chocolate is sold here.

Get lost!

Are you lost? Perder means to lose something.

Él siempre perdía el reloj.
He used to always lose the watch.​

But perderse means to get lost!

A veces me pierdo en la ciudad.
Sometimes I get lost in the city.
