Making Plans

If you are going to do something in the future, use a form of ir, plus a, then an infinitive form of what you’re doing.

Mañana voy a viajar a México.
Tomorrow I am going to travel to Mexico.

Vamos a visitar a nuestros padres.
We're going to visit our parents.

Ella va a viajar en avión.
She is going to travel by plane.

Spanish sounds

Spanish x usually sounds just like x in the English word taxi.

exámenexamen
as in "taxi"

An exception is México! The x here is like a Spanish j. In fact, another spelling for México is Méjico!

The Spanish z usually sounds like an English s.

zapatozapato
as in "see"

Menos cuarto

Cuarto refers to a quarter of an hour (15 minutes) in Spanish.

Vamos a llegar a las seis y cuarto.
We are going to arrive at quarter past six.

In English, we say It's quarter to five. In Spanish you'd say It's five minus a quarter.

Son las cinco menos cuarto.
It is quarter to five.
