Sometimes, two actions happen at the same time. In order to say this in English, we have useful words like upon and while. In French, you will use en, followed by a verb that ends in ‑ant (similar to the verbs in English ending in ‑ing).
Elle lit le journal en buvant du café.
She reads the newspaper while drinking coffee.
En sortant, j’ai vu mon voisin.
Upon going out, I saw my neighbor.
Il chante en prenant une douche.
He sings while showering.
When you use a verb like se réveiller, se lever, or se reposer, remember to change se to refer to the person doing the action.
J’ai regardé l’horloge en me réveillant.
I looked at the clock upon waking up.
Vous écoutez de la musique en vous brossant les dents.
You listen to music while brushing your teeth.
To say that something has not yet happened, you will use ne... pas encore. Be sure to note that you can separate ne from the other words, but pas encore always go together.
Ils n’ont pas encore appelé.
They have not yet called.
Elles ne sont pas encore parties.
They haven’t left yet.
Nous n’avons pas encore vu le film.
We haven’t seen the movie yet.
