Don't be intimidated! Most French consonants are similar to sounds that exist in English.
Often, the final consonant of a word is silent, especially if the word ends in s or t; for example, suis or chat.
French has two words for in. In most cases, you’ll use à, but when talking about countries, you'll normally use en.
Most Cases | Countries |
---|---|
J’habite à Paris. I live in Paris. |
J’habite en France. I live in France. |
Je travaille à Madrid. I work in Madrid. |
Je travaille en Espagne. I work in Spain. |
Je suis à Londres. I’m in London. |
Je suis en Angleterre. I’m in England. |
Remember that French sounds like an (as in français) are pronounced while air flows out through the nose. Lucky for you... an and en usually sound the same!
J’habite en Angleterre.
I live in England.
L’enfant joue.
The child is playing.
