The origin of Peking Duck, 北京烤鸭 (Běijīng kǎoyā), dates back to the Ming Dynasty when it was reserved for royalty in Beijing, formerly known as Peking.​

Kung Pao Chicken, 宫保鸡丁 (gōng bǎo jī dīng), is named after a government official, who held the rank of Gongbao. He was a big fan of the dish! ​
