Could you lend me a pencil?

Lend in Chinese is (jiè, lend; borrow). ​

可以借我铅笔吗?
Kěyǐ jiè wǒ qiānbǐ ma?​
Can (you) lend me a pencil?​

For borrowing something from somebody, just use (xiàng, from) before the person and then add !​

我可以向你借笔记本吗?
Wǒ kěyǐ xiàng nǐ jiè bǐjìběn ma?​
Can I borrow the notebook from you?​

他想向我借钱。
Tā xiǎng xiàng wǒ jiè qián.​
He wants to borrow money from me.​

It’s not clear!

清楚 (qīngchǔ, clear) means clear or clearly. If you say 清楚 or 清楚 , that means that you read it or hear it clearly. ​

你看清楚了吗?
Nǐ kàn qīngchǔ le ma?​
Did you see it clearly?​

Is it something that isn't clear? Add or 没有 !​

黑板上写什么?我看不清楚。
Hēibǎn shàng xiě shénme? Wǒ kàn bù qīngchǔ.​
What's written on the blackboard? I can't see it clearly.​

我没有听清楚。
Wǒ méiyǒu tīng qīngchǔ.​
I didn't hear it clearly.​

多少 vs 几

In Chinese, there are two ways to ask How many? is used to ask about smaller numbers, and 多少 is generally used to ask about numbers we’d expect to be over ten. ​

他们有几个孩子?
Tāmen yóu jǐ gè háizi?​
How many children do they have?​

你要几张纸?
Nǐ yào jǐ zhāng zhǐ?​
How many sheets of paper do you need?​

我们班一共有多少人?
Wǒmen bān yígòng yǒu duōshǎo rén?​
How many people are there in our class in total?​

这次中文考试有多少题?
Zhè cì Zhōngwén kǎoshì yǒu duōshǎo tí?​
How many questions are there in the Chinese exam this time?​
